FRANCE: Napoleon I, as Emperor, 1804-1814, 1815, AR medal (15.61g), AN 13 (1804-5), Julius-1258, Bramsen-326, 32mm silver medal on the Coronation of the Emperor by Andrieu and Jeuffroy, laureate bust right with NAPOLEON - EMPEROR around // on a shield held by a senator and a soldier, the Emperor standing facing in coronation robes, holding a scepter adorned with an eagle, with tablets of the law to the left and a plow shank to the right with LE SENAT - ET LE PEUPLE around and AN XIII in exergue, lightly cleaned with numerous light scratches, starting to retone, plain edge, XF. The Coronation of Napoleon was the enthronement and coronation ceremony that followed the proclamation of Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor of the French under the title of Napoleon I on May 18, 1804. The religious coronation ceremony, officiated by Pope Pius VII, followed by the coronation, took place on Sunday, December 2, 1804, at Notre-Dame de Paris. It lasted nearly five hours, and the painter Jacques-Louis David painted two paintings of it: The Coronation of Napoleon and The Distribution of the Eagles.
