FRANCE: Third Republic, AE medal (18.17g), 1889, VG-4113, 33mm bronze medal by Barre for the Exposition Universelle; REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE around bust left, BARRE below // REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE / EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE around CENTENAIRE / DE / 1789 within a crown of oak and olive tree under a radiating star, a wonderful red lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64 RD. The Exposition Universelle of 1889 was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from May 6 to October 31, 1889. It was the fifth of ten major expositions held in the city between 1855 and 1937. It attracted more than thirty-two million visitors. The most famous structure created for the exposition, and still remaining, is the Eiffel Tower.
