FRENCH COLONIES: essai set, 1948, SET of 12 cupro-bronze ESSAI patterns designed by A. Rivaud, KM-E1 through KM-E6 for each country, consisting of 50 centimes, 1 franc and 2 francs coins for New Caledonia and French Oceania, with two examples of each type, one with raised rim and one with no rim; all choice BU in original case with the original explanatory card, set of 12 pieces, S. Although mintage of 1100 of each type was authorized, the designs were not accepted for general circulating coins, first struck in 1949. It is likely that very few sets survive with the original case.
