FRENCH COLONIES:LOT of 6 countermarked coins including; billon stampee (large crowned-C countermark) applied 1779 (5), plus 1767 AE sols (9 deniers) struck for use in the French Colonies in the Caribbean counterstamped with the letters "RF" (Republique Francaise); average circulated condition, a nice study group, retail value $200, lot of 6 coins, About Unc, R. Many of the counterstamped piece ended up in the American Colonies, where they circulated at the value of one cent. Because of their presence in "American" change, they are considered part of the American Colonial series, despite their manufacture overseas.
