GANDHARA: Punchmarked, 5th century BC, silver-plated copper 1/2 shatamana (5.26g), one 6-arm Gandharan symbol, trace of a bankers' mark to the right; blank reverse, some porosity, VF, RRR, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. The size and thickness confirms that this must have a copper base, with some light silver-coating that is largely gone. It is thus a copper-base issue during an emergency period or a contemporary forgery, possibly the cut off half of a full copper-base shatamana. Historically, a very interesting piece!
