GARDINER'S ISLAND: SET of 3 pattern coins, struck by the Franklin Mint in 'nicon' (copper-nickle with colombian), 'sterling plus' (nickel silver core sandwiched between two layers of sterling silver) and 'franklinium I' (pure nickel inpregnated with colombian), all set in the original case of issue, set of 3 coins. Trial pieces testing new alloys were struck by the Franklin Mint in this Island's name dated 1965. Gardiner's Island is a small island, in eastern Suffolk County in the U.S. state of New York, located in Gardiner's Bay between the two fluke-like peninsulas at the eastern end of Long Island.
