GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC: porcelain medal, 1947, Scheuch-1853.a, 104mm large medal in red porcelain struck during the Soviet administration of the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia; Coat of arms of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics // Red Square with Saint Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum and the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin, dates below 1917-1947, PCGS graded MS66. On January 23, 1710, a decree from August the Strong publicly announced the founding of the "Königlich-Polnischen und Kurfürstlich-Sächsischen Porzellan-Manufaktur", which opened on June 6, 1710 after setting up a production facility in the Albrechtsburg Castle in Meißen. In 1806, the manufactory was transferred from the ownership of the crown to the ownership of the Saxon treasury as the "Königlich-Sächsische Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen." As part of the constitutional renewal of state ownership during the Weimar Repubic period, the company was called "Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen" from 1918 onwards. In the GDR the manufactory was a state-owned company. On August 1, 1946, the porcelain factory was taken over as a branch of the Soviet stock corporation "Zement" due to German reparation obligations. The factory was returned from Soviet ownership on July 1, 1950. It became a state-owned company with the name "VEB Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meißen" during the communist period. Since June 26, 1991, it has been operating as "Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH", whose shareholder is the Free State of Saxony .
