IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
GERMAN EAST AFRICA: Wilhelm II, 1888-1918, 20 heller, 1916-T, KM-15, struck in brass, obverse A / reverse A, a wonderful mint state example! PCGS graded MS64. After engaging British warships, Captain Looff of the cruiser SMS Königsberg ordered his ship scuttled on the Rufiji River Delta on 11 July 1915, but not before everything of use was removed, including parts from which a minting machine was built for the Tabora mint. The metal for this mintage was obtained from spent cartridges and artillery shell casings.
