GERMAN EAST AFRICA: Wilhelm II, 1888-1918, AE 20 heller, 1916-T, KM-15, Schön-18, struck in copper, obverse B / reverse B, scarce variety, a wonderful mint state example! NGC graded MS64 BN. After engaging British warships, Captain Looff of the cruiser SMS Königsberg ordered his ship scuttled on the Rufiji River Delta on July 11, 1915, but not before everything of use was removed, including parts from which a minting machine was built for the Tabora Mint. The metal for this mintage was obtained from spent cartridges and artillery shell casings.
