GERMANY: Weimar Republic, porcelain medal, ND (1922), Scheuch-490, 50mm white porcelain medal, so-called Berlin "Black Shame" type; SCHWARZE SCHMACH UND KULTURSCHANDE, representation of the desecrated Lorelei as a screaming naked female figure held by a gorilla (personifying an African Colonial French soldier), flanked by two scepters with the heads of Gallic roosters; over the head of the gorilla is an aureole with the initials RF for République Française above // DEUTSCHER NOT- UND SCHMACHTALER (German Emergency Shame Thaler), kneeling, weeping boy between two oak tree stumps sprouting new growth, broken sword below, medal made at the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, Unc. This porcelain medal was issued as propaganda during the French occupation of the Rhineland following WWI to highlight German resentment toward the use of African colonial troops.
