TH MAY / MDCCLXXXXIX in exergue in five lines, a pleasing mint state example, NGC graded MS62 BN. Once the siege began in late March 1799, Admiral Sir Sidney Smith anchored HMS Tigre and Theseus so their broadsides could assist the defence. The siege of Acre was an unsuccessful French siege of the Ottoman city of Acre and was the turning point of Napoleon's invasion of Egypt and Syria, along with the Battle of the Nile.
