Brenet for the Duke of Wellington's Victories; ARTHUR DUKE OF WELLINGTON around bust of the Duke, MUDIE D below // two clasped hands above inscription WATERLOO / JUNE XVIII / MDCCCXV within a wreath entwined with the names of the principle victories in France and the Peninsular Campaign, SALAMANCA VITTORIA PAMPELUNA ORTHES TOULOUSE VIMIERA OPORTO TALAVERA BUSACO FTES DE ONOR, a wonderful specimen example! PCGS graded Specimen 64. In 1820, a set of 40 military related medals was issued by James Mudie to commemorate British victories over the French spanning a 20 year period, from 1797 to 1817. The medals depicted important military and naval events during the reign of George III, and were produced in silver and bronze, all measuring 41 mm in diameter. This is part of that series.
