GREAT BRITAIN: AE medal, ND (1820), Eimer-1085, Brown-921, 41mm bronze medal by L. Brenet and Gerard for the Bombardment of Algiers; uniformed bust right, of Lord Exmouth, ADMIRAL LORD EXMOUTH around // Neptune, with trident, pacifying a sea-horse, in exergue, ALGIERS AUGUST / 1816, a superb specimen example! PCGS graded Specimen 65. In 1820, a set of 40 military related medals was issued by James Mudie to commemorate British victories over the French spanning a 20 year period, from 1797 to 1817. The medals depicted important military and naval events during the reign of George III, and were produced in silver and bronze, all measuring 41 mm in diameter. This is part of that series.
