Gillick, uniformed bust left with EDWARDVS VII - KAISAR-I-HIND around // fortress of Potala Lhassa with TIBET 1903-4 below, with ornate hanger, but no bar or ribbon, 2 reverse edge cuts and 2 small rim nicks, "657 Carpth. Pappana 13th Mule Corps" engraved in cursive script on edge, VF-EF. In July 1903, an expeditionary force was assembled under Colonel Francis Younghusband and encountered the Tibetan Army at Tanu. The Tibetans were forcibly disarmed, and the Dalai Lama refused to negotiate a peace as the British force advanced to Gyantse. The Tibetans surrounded and attacked the British, but were decisively defeated. A peace treaty was finally signed in the Portala Lhassa on August 4, 1904.
