Bull for the Capture of Bouchain; ANNE AVGVSTA, draped laureate bust of Anne left // HOSTES AD DEDITIONEM COACTI, French soldier kneeling, surrendering sword, musket, and mural crown to female figure seated upon globe, holding spear and oval shield inscribed FOR / TVNA / MA / NENS, military instruments around, fortifications of Bouchain in background; in exergue VALLO GALLORVM SVPERATO / ET BVCHEMIO CAPTO / MDCCXI, a lovely chocolate-brown lustrous example! NGC graded MS63 BN. The siege of Bouchain (August 9 – September 12, 1711), following the Passage of the Lines of Ne Plus Ultra (August 5, 1711), was a siege of the War of the Spanish Succession, and the last major victory of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. Marlborough and François Nicolas Fagel of Nijmegen, Dutch Republic, broke through the French defensive lines and took Bouchain after a siege of 34 days.
