GREAT BRITAIN: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AR medal, Queen's South Africa Medal issue 1899-1902, two campaign bars South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, with ribbon, awarded to PTE W. SLADE, GRENADIER GUARDS, EF. The Queen's South Africa Medal is a British campaign medal which was awarded to British and Colonial military personnel, civilians employed in official capacity and war correspondents who served in the Second Boer War in South Africa. Altogether twenty-six clasps were awarded to recipients of the Queen's South Africa Medal, to indicate particular actions and campaigns of the Second Boer War. During the Second Boer War, the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Grenadier Guards were deployed to South Africa where they took part in a number of battles including the Battle of Modder River and the Battle of Belmont, as well as a number of smaller actions.
