GREAT BRITAIN: George III, 1760-1820, AE 5 shilling, 6 pence, ND [1811], ESC-1996 (206) for type, 41mm uniface pattern or trial striking of the obverse of the 1811 Bank Token obverse type K issue; laureate draped bust of King left, five berries in wreath. *.* on truncation, struck on a relatively thick and heavy (3.3mm, 33.75g) planchet from somewhat rusted dies, with much original red luster, Unc, RR. Made for the Bank of England during the Napoleonic Wars. This is one of a variety of suggested denominations that were all abandoned after the war's conclusion, when the normal Crown was made again for George III in 1818. Similar to Linecar and Stone 'English Proof and Pattern Crown Size Pieces page 33, number 143, but in copper.
