BROWN MANCH. R., XF The Indian General Service Medal (1909 IGSM) was a campaign medal approved on January 1, 1909, for issue to officers and men of the British and Indian armies. It was struck at both the Calcutta and London Mints, for Indian and British forces.The local Burmese authorities requested reinforcements from India to help restore order. The 1st and 2nd battalions of The Manchester Regiment were sent to Burma to take part in operations to quell the rebellion and the 2nd Manchester Battalion was involved in patrolling the jungle and villages in their assigned region until the rebellion was brought under control in 1932.
