GREAT BRITAIN: Military Medals: George VI, 1936-1952, AR medal, MYB-174, 36mm, General Service Medal, with campaign bar PALESTINE 1945-48 and correct ribbon, awarded to AS. 18366 PTE. S. MOIMA. A. P. C. (African Pioneer Corps), lovely surfaces with prooflike reflectivity, light scattered hairlines, UNC. The African Pioneer Corps was composed of Basuto soldiers recruited in Basutoland (today's Lesotho) to aid British war effort in North Africa and the Levant during WWII. They were also deployed in British Palestine during the insurgency launched in 1944 by Jewish paramilitary groups. While service in this conflict prior to 1945 is counted as WWII service, service between September 27, 1945 (the date a "state of emergency" was declared) and June 30, 1948 (when the last British troops departed) is acknowledged by this clasp to the General Service Medal (GSM).
