GREAT BRITAIN: Victoria, 1837-1901, AR medal, 1845, BHM-2218, 49mm medal by William Wyon; John Charles, Viscount Althorp, third Earl Spencer bust left, President 1823-1845 / Charles Gordon Lennox, fifth Duke of Richmond head right, President 1845-1860, noted cattle breeder and a founder of the Royal Agricultural Society in 1838, lightly hairlined, About Unc.

The edge of the medal is inscribed LORD CHESHAM, LATIMER CHESHAM, BUCKS for a succession of show-quality pedigreed Short-Wooled and Shropshire sheep. Charles Cavendish, Lord Chesham, succeeded to the title in the early 1850's. His award medals were sold by his descendants recently to help defray the upkeep of the surviving family estate and its extensive grounds. No other such succession of awards to a single recipient is known to exist from this influential organization, and this unmatched collection provides a unique glimpse into a vanished world of English country life under Queen Victoria
