GREAT MONGOLS: Möngke, 1251-1260, AE fals (2.04g), Bukhara, AH[65]1, A-1978R, mangu qa'an al-'adil on obverse (in 3 lines), four-leaf clover on reverse, this specimen already on Zeno as Z-109708, nice strike, minor crease, VF, RRR.

The marginal text identifies the denomination as fals. The size is about 25.5mm. There is also a much larger copper coin, average 35-38mm and much heavier, that is inscribed dirham and was originally silver-washed (A-1978Q). Zeno illustrates 8 examples of the dirham (e.g., Z-1793), but only this specimen for the fals, which may still be unique. Moreover, this piece is of great importance, for together with A-1978 it proves that there were two different denominations in simultaneous circulation, a dirham of silver-washed broad copper and a fals of much smaller size copper and without silver-wash.
