GUATEMALA: Carlos III, 1759-1788, AR 8 reales, 1768-G, KM-27.1, Cr-23, Gilboy-G-8-17b, assayer P, Pillar type, variety with globes 2mm above waves and crown is 2mm above globes, nice original tone, finest graded by NGC (March 2017), NGC graded AU50, S2 (Gilboy), ex Richard Stuart Collection. This type has a diameter of about 40mm up through this date, 1768. From 1769 to 1771, though, the diameter was reduced to 37-38mm. This is why the later Pillar coins have many peripheral letters partly off flan.
