GUPTA: Chandragupta II, ca. 380-414, AV stater (7.87g), Mitch-—, Altekar Pl. VI, 8, king standing, shooting an arrow & killing the lion, trampling on its tail / goddess Ganga standing on a makara, holding a lotus in her right hand, her left hand resting on the makara's haunch, nice strike, lovely Very Fine to Extremely Fine, R.

Other examples of the lion-slayer have the goddess holding a diadem or something similar, with the Gupta tamgha where the lotus appears on this piece. The lion has its head raised, rather than resting in a lower position. CORRECTION TO ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION - This particular lion-slayer type with the position of the lion's head and the presence of the lotus in place of the tamgha is less rare than originally noted.
