HAKIMATE OF TASHKAND: Yunus Khoja, 1789-1801, AE pul (fulus) (2.37g), ND, KM-3, A-H3027., NS-T01, usual uneven strike, extremely rare type, F-VF, RRR, ex Dr. Wolfgang Schuster Collection. The town and region of Tashkand (Tashkent) seceded from the Qazaq Khanate in 1784. During a short "republican" period of independence, it fell under the joint rule of four municipal hakims. In 1789, one of them, Yunus Khoja, eliminated his colleagues and became the sole ruler. Contrary to the ancient legitimate tradition, he was neither a dynastic nor a hereditary ruler. As the head of the "republic", he minted copper and silver coins in his name. In 1801, Yunus Khoja was dismissed from power by his own sons.
