HILDESHEIM: Gustav Adolph II, of Sweden, 1631-1632, AR thaler, KM-53, Dav-4545, Ahlstrom-21b, type formerly attributed to Erfurt with "Jehovah" in flaming sun above legend // twelve line inscription commemorating the Swedish victory at the Battle of Breitenfeld, a superb example with much original toned mint luster! PCGS graded AU55. This type of unsigned reichsthaler also exists in a variant signed with the initials LA. Both signed and unsigned versions have traditionally been attributed to the mints in the cities of Erfurt or Mainz occupied by the Swedes. According to recent research, both variants were minted in Hildesheim in 1632.
