IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
HUNGARY: Artex Restrikes, AR 5 pengo, 1938-BP UP, KM-XPn13.2, restrike of the Miklós Horthy (1920-1944) issue, 900th Anniversary - Death of St. Stephan (Szent Istvan), Artex klippe restrike of 1963-65 with initials UP, a fantastic lustrous proof state example! PCGS graded Proof 66 DCAM. Artex was a company owned and operated by the Hungarian mint for producing restrikes of classic Hungarian coins in the mid 1960s. Restrikes of dozens of coins were produced, including patterns and klippes, and the quality of the restrikes were excellent. Most had 1,000 pieces struck, but some had very few (even in the single digits) or up to several thousand struck. There are several ways of identifying an Artex restrike. For smaller coins, most have a rosette added either on the obverse before the legend for silver, or for base metal coins, on the reverse below the mintmark or above the denomination. For larger coins, most have a UP somewhere, usually near the mint mark.
