ILKHAN: Abu Sa'id, 1316-1335, AR 2 dirhams (3.52g), Erzincan, AH719, A-2200.1, type C, bold strike, mint name cited twice on obverse, Extremely Fine, R. The "chip" in the planchet is not a chip but part of the production. The blank starts out as a globure of molten silver, tossed into water with a twist, then flattened out by a hammer or something similar. If the molten silver solidified somewhat irregularly, it will form an indented ridge that becomes a chip-like break, usually continuing as a tiny flan crack, as on this specimen.
