ILKHAN: Abu Sa'id, 1316-1335, AV dinar (4.95g), NM, ND, A-2212, type G, contemporary imitation, likely from Eastern Anatolia or the Caucasus, Unc, R. Because the later Ilkhans overvalued silver and gold coins vis-à-vis their metal value, local authorities around the fringes struck imitative fine silver & gold for local circulation, but because the weight & fineness were correct, they were widely accepted throughout the Ilkhan territories.
