ILKHAN: Arghun, 1284-1291, AR dirham (2.21g), Khüzistân, AH(6)86, A-2146R, inner circle with legend arghun / al-qa'an / al-a'zam, very clear mint & date in the margin // plain circle around 4-line extended kalima; the first known example with the full mint name, confirmed now as Khuzistan rather than Khuy, VF, RRR. This type was originally assigned to Khuy, with the first known specimen in the Tübingen collection with the mint described as "Khuy? mint uncertain", the second sold in our Auction 35, lot 1388 (same obverse die), where I assumed "Khuy" was most likely, even though the last letter looks more like R or Z rather then Y, but the next segment of the margin was off flan. This piece, the 3rd known example, shows the rest of the mint name and confirms that it is Khûzistân, the southwest Iranian region, not Khuy, and the style is more appropriate for southern Iran rather than the northwest!
