INDO-PARTHIAN: Gondophares I, ca. 40-5 BC, AR tetradrachm (9.48g), Senior-216.21T, king riding left in Parthian dress holding whip, flying Nike holding wreath above king's head. Gondopharid symbol on left, legend around // Shiva stands facing with trident in right and palm in his left, legend around; wonderful example with full bold legends on both sides, very rare in this quality, choice VF, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. From the consignor: "One of the earliest depictions of trident holding Shiva apparently inspired by models of the Bactrian king Antimachos I depicting Poseidon in comparable posture".
