BORNEO: Da Gang Gongsi, tin cash (7.17g), ca. 1780-1825, Millies--, Yih & de Kreek-- (NC 1993), Zeno--, da gang gong si // he shun (referring to the He Shun Gongsi Federation), unpublished type with the reverse characters arranged horizontally, apparently unique, cast with a defective obverse mold, small marks, F-VF. With its dumpy flan and crude calligraphy, this example is very different from the more common issues of Da Gang Gong Si. In fact, its style and size are very similar to the earlier issues of some of the smaller Chinese mining companies (gongsi) which made up the He Shun Confederation (cf. Yih & de Kreek-25ff, as well as our Auction 52, Lot 1231).
