BORNEO: San Tiao Gou Gongsi, tin-lead cash (12.59g), Millies-260, Yih & de Kreek-pl. 26-7 (NC 1993), cf. Zeno-4358, crude Chinese legend san / tiao / gou / gong si // zheng li, typical crude casting, some scratches, extremely rare, VF Santiaogou Gongsi was one of the Chinese mining companies that made up the He Shun Confederation in the Montrado region of western Borneo. A quarrel with Da Gang Gongsi, the leading company within the confederation, led to its withdrawal in early 1819. It was one of a few gongsis on Borneo to issue coins. This is the first example we have handled and the first one to be offered in a Western auction to our knowledge.
