JAVA: British Occupation, AE duit, 1812, KM-240, East India Company balemark, mint master initial Z, an attractive nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58. The British occupied Java from 1811 to 1816 during the Napoleonic Wars, seizing it from the French-controlled Dutch to secure trade routes and expand influence in the East Indies. Led by Lord Minto and executed by Sir Samuel Auchmuty, the 1811 invasion saw quick success, after which Thomas Stamford Raffles was appointed Lieutenant-Governor, introducing major reforms before returning the island to the Dutch in 1816.
