INDONESIA: SULAWESI: Anonymous, tin-lead pitis (1.62g), Dar al-Salam, AH1136, Zeno-, Millies-, dar / al-salam ("Above of Peace"), date below // hadha / masruf ("This is money"), lightly wavy flan, Fine. This is the first and only example we have encountered for this type. Dar al-Salam ("Abode of Peace") is a common epithet for numerous locations around the Islamic world, from East Africa to Southeast Asia (where it is usually Latinized as Darussalam). The exact origin of this coin is unclear, but there are strong similarities in the flan and the calligraphic style with coins of the Bone Sultanate in southwestern Sulawesi (cf. Zeno-329988). We therefore tentatively attribute this coin to Sulawesi, which was home to Bone and a number of other states in AH1136 (1723/4 AD).
