INDONESIA: SUMATRA: Zain al-'Abidin, fl. 1745, tin 1/4 pitis (0.31g), ND, Millies, cf. Zeno-301743, sultan / z-ayn al-`abidin // batu / bahar, very clear lettering, Choice VF, RR. This is one of the first two examples of coins from the small sultanate of Batubara (also called Lima Laras, located on the east coast of North Sumatra) to appear in a Western auction. Little written records exist on the history of this sultanate prior to the 19th century.
