INDONESIA: cast token (18.32g), ca. 18th-19th century, 41mm, copying Dutch silver rider of Utrecht on the obverse, and on the reverse combining its Latin legend with the design of a Javanese magic coin (gobog), F-VF Similar examples of these mysterious imitations (cf. SS-94, British North Borneo) have been reported around Barabai City in South Kalimantan, about 100 miles north of Banjarmasin. They are cast in a crude manner and imitate commonly circulated European silver coins in the area, such as the Maria Theresa thaler or the Dutch 10 stuiver, but bear additional, unexplained symbols in the field. This is the first time that we have encountered one with a gobog design.
