IRAN: Nasir al-Din Shah, 1848-1896, AR shahi sefid, Tehran, AH1298, KM-889, an attractive mint state example, PCGS graded MS61. The 'shahi sefid' (white shahi) were intended mainly as 'nowruz' (new year) gifts and were valued at 150 dinars. They were struck on broader and thinner planchets than the smallest silver denomination of the period, the quarter kran or 'robi', which was value at 250 dinars. This made for a slightly more impressive present at a lower production cost for the mint.
