IRELAND: Free State, proof set, 1928, KM-PS1, 8-piece proof set, appears to be generally free of hairlines except halfcrown reverse, which appears to be lightly hairlined, silver with mottled light tone, nickel is untoned, bronze is lightly toned, in original green plush hard case, mintage of only 6,001 sets, Proof, Scarce. British rule of Ireland ended in 1926 with the establishment of the Irish Free State. Desiring a unique set of Irish designs, a selection committee was formed and headed by poet W.B. Yeats. So as to avoid controversial religious or political themes, the group selected agricultlural / animal motifs.
