IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
JAPAN: AE charm (4.57g), 28mm, Shichifukujin "Seven Lucky Gods or Seven Gods of Fortune" type, Ebisu, Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Jurojin, Hotei, Fukurokuju, and Kichijoten, all shown seated, VF. In Japanese mythology, the Shichifukujin are believed to grant good luck and are often represented in netsuke and in artworks. They all began as remote and impersonal gods, but gradually became much closer canonical figures for certain professions and Japanese arts. During the course of their history, the mutual influence between gods has created confusion about which of them was the patron of certain professions. The worship of this group of gods is also due to the importance of the number seven in Japan, supposedly a signifier of good luck.
