JAPAN: AE medal, The 2600th Anniversary Commemorative Women's Medal, with clasp, ribbon, and case with gold lettering, AU, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The 2600th Anniversary Commemorative Medal was established by Imperial Ordinance No. 488 on July 27, 1940, and awarded to those invited to the Kigensetsu or the 2600th Anniversary Ceremony and those involved in the affairs and essential duties of the ceremony. On the obverse, it displays the chrysanthemum crest along with the sacred double bridge leading to the inner grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. In the background are depictions of the ancestral shrine, the imperial sanctuary, and the imperial palace.
