JAPAN: AE medal, Commendation from the Bushido Association upon returning alone from military service medal, with original box in worn condition, XF, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The medal is inscribed Kinen Sho (Commemorative Medal) on obverse with Imperial banners and symbols and the reverse inscription, Meiji 27-28 Nen Seishin (referring to the Sino-Japanese War, which took place during the 27th and 28th years of the Meiji era [1894-1895]) and Jugun kishobu kaiga (Commendation from the Bushido Association upon returning from military service). The Bushido Association (Shobu-kai) was a martial arts organization. This is a rare commemorative medal issued by a Japanese martial arts association to a returning veteran of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895.
