JAPAN: AE medal, The 1931–1934 Manchurian Incident War Medal, with original clasp and ribbon, XF, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The 1931–1934 Manchurian Incident War Medal was issued to soldiers, sailors, and support personnel involved in the military operations in Manchuria between September 18, 1931, and the end of 1934. The medal symbolizes the beginning of Japan's major territorial expansions in China, leading up to the Second Sino-Japanese War. The obverse features a bronze falcon with wings spread, perched on a Samurai shield with a 16-petal chrysanthemum crest above it. The reverse has two crossed military helmets (representing the Army and Navy) with a stylized cloud background and inscription "Showa era 6th Year to 9th Year Incident" (1931–1934).
