JAPAN: AR amulet (156.93g), 78x123mm, large silver amulet with a multitude of Hoei era stamps, likely made in the Taisho or early Showa period, deacquisition from the Money Museum of the National Bank of Detroit, EF, ex Charles Opitz Collection. The Money Museum at the National Bank of Detroit opened on April 28, 1960. The Money Museum 's director, Rear Admiral Oscar H. Dodson, USN, was an ANS Fellow (1943) and past president of the American Numismatic Association. Nate S. Shapero, a local businessman and numismatist, donated his collection to the museum. The Money Museum moved to the RenCen (Renaissance Center) in 1977, after which the museum closed and its contents were sold at auction.
