JAPAN: AR order, the Order of the Golden Kite (Kinshi Kunsho), 8th Class, with original ribbon, AU, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Order of the Golden Kite was an order of the Empire of Japan, established on February 12, 1890 by Emperor Meiji "in commemoration of Jimmu Tenno, the Romulus of Japan." The Order of the Golden Kite was an exclusively military award, conferred for bravery, leadership or command in battle. The order consisted of seven classes. The seventh class order, while the lowest class, still represented high valor and it was awarded primarily to enlisted men during the Second Sino-Japanese War and Pacific War. It is a silver, non-enameled badge featuring a gilt stylized kite, ancient shields, crossed spears, and a sheathed halberd. It was abolished 1947 by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) during the occupation of Japan, after World War II.
