JAPAN: AV kin kwan (5.51g), ND (ca. 2000 BC-400 AD), Opitz page 280; Munro page 5, 19mm, "Gold Ring Money" gilt copper ring; the gilt appears somewhat thicker than most examples, some verdigris as usual, with extra small ring, VF. Various forms of ring money were used in Eastern Asia, including Japan, for at least 2,500 years; usually made of hollow copper with a thin layer of gold (kin) or silver (gin) applied to the outside surfaces; an intriguing piece which is sure to delight the advanced collector of Japanese numismatics or primative money.
