JAPAN: Ansei, 1854-1860, AR mameita gin (1.59g), Edo Mint, H-9.61, Cr-8a, JNDA-09-69, Daikoku, the God of Wealth, either side with character sei within, small planchet, struck 1859-65, XF. The Japanese "mameita gin," also known as "bean money," was made from silver alloys using the "yudoko-buki" method: molten metal was poured into a cloth, such as linen, and submerged in hot water. The designs were hammered into the cooling silver.
