JAPAN: Bunsei, 1818-1830, AR mameita gin (2.55g), Edo Mint, H-9.46h, JNDA-09-67, with character bun many times throughout field, uniface, small planchet, struck 1820-37, VF. The Japanese "mameita gin," also known as "bean money," is made from silver alloys using the "yudoko-buki" method: molten metal is poured into a cloth, such as linen, submerged in hot water. The designs were hammered into the cooling silver.
