JAPAN: Kofun Period, circa 300-538 AD, LOT of 2 Japanese magatamas of different shapes and colors measuring 26mm and 36mm, a nice little group of these rarely offered items, retail value $300, lot of 2 items, ex Charles Opitz Collection. Magatamas are gem-stone carvings, resembling the claw of a tiger or similar animal. These were valuable trade items, but perhaps not used as currency. However, magatamas are included in most money museums.
