JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR medal (26.27g), year 39 (1906), 39mm silver Kazoku Kaikan Medal, awarded to Uchiyama Yuzaburo, Kazoku Kaikan Shohai (Peerage Hall Award Medal), Shoto Gakka-kei Roku-nenkyu (Elementary school system, sixth grade/year), with original velvet lined paulownia wooden case of issue, AU, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Kazoku Kaikan (Peers' Club or House of Peers) was associated with the Japanese nobility (Kazoku) established in the Meiji era. The Club was renamed Kasumi Kaikan in 1947 after the post-war Constitution of Japan abolished the hereditary peerage.
