JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AV 10 yen, year 41 (1908), Y-33, JNDA-01-7, a lovely gem mint state example, NGC graded MS65, ex Japan Ministry of Finance Hoard. Between 2005 and 2007 a hoard of approximately 30,000 gold coins was released from the vaults of the Japan Ministry of Finance dating from 1870-1930. The coins were placed in special plastic cases and auctioned by the Japanese government. On some examples, the two major American third party graders assigned grades and registration numbers while leaving the coins within the Ministry cases, similar to what they do with United States GSA dollars.
